Overview

SonaCap is designed to provide realtime captions and translation while storing as little user information as possible.

Audio, Speech Recognition, and Translation

SonaCap may use iOS Broadcast, Apple Speech, Apple Translation, and local fallback speech recognition models to provide captions and translations.

SonaCap's first iPhone release requires iOS 26 or later because realtime translation depends on Apple's Translation framework and system-managed language resources.

SonaCap does not operate its own server and does not send your audio, video, or webpage text to a SonaCap server.

By default, SonaCap requires Apple Speech to process speech recognition on device when the selected input language supports it. If you turn off Local Apple Speech, Apple system services may process speech recognition according to Apple's privacy practices.

Translation uses Apple's Translation framework and system-managed language resources, which may require downloaded language packs. Translation behavior may depend on Apple system services and available language resources. Review Apple's privacy information for details about Apple services.

If translation keeps showing that a language pack is downloading or preparing, install or open Apple's Translate app, download the selected input and output languages there, and use Translate to check the download progress.

Information Stored On Device

SonaCap may store language preferences, bookmarks, first-launch disclaimer acceptance, trial counters, and purchase entitlement state on your device.

Diagnostics

Diagnostic tools and temporary debug audio files are intended for development or troubleshooting builds only. App Store release builds are intended to omit those debug controls and temporary debug audio recordings.

Third-Party Content

SonaCap can be used with third-party apps, websites, audio, and videos. SonaCap does not control those third-party services or their privacy practices.
